Handicap

For people in wheelchairs, skiing means an incredible sense of freedom. Additionally, it provides excellent training for the muscles of the arms and torso, whilst also helping to work on their balance. We offer ski courses and programs for winter sports fans with sensory, mental and physical handicaps.

MONO SKI:

A mono ski consists of a seat pan with footrests, which can be installed on a normal ski with the help of a binding plate. Hand-held outriggers are used to ensure stability and mobility.

The mono ski is suitable for persons with:

  • Good trunk stability
  • Function of the upper extremities/upper body
  • Gripping function
  • Flexion of hip and knee joints

BI-SKI:

This special ski device offers an alternative for people, who are not able to use hand-held outriggers for stability. Two closely fitted skiers allow swinging without using hands – the skier moves his head or shoulders to turn the bi-ski. The assistance of an accompanying person is needed. The sophisticated construction of these modern ski devices enables mono skiers as well as bi skiers to use platter, tow and chair lifts.

Courses

SKI COURSE FOR SELF-SKIERS (MONO SKI)

This course teaches how to mono ski independently. Therefore a certain support force in trunk and arms is required.

ACCOMPANYING MONO AND BI SKIING

For younger children or skiers with multiple handicaps, who are not able to ski independently, we offer ski support by our ski instructors or we will teach an accompanying person how to control the mono ski or the bi ski externally.

ASSISTED SKIING

Individual ski course, which is tailored to the special needs of the skier and one-to-one assistance if necessary (for example for persons with visual impairments or mental disabilities). Through the use of a mono ski, ski assistance is even possible for persons, who are not able to walk or ski for themselves. The mono ski is being controlled externally – the ski instructor takes care of the steering and braking of the ski device with the help of a bracket and a retaining rope. This kind of assisted skiing is particularly suitable for children and young people with multiple severe disabilities.
